This is my friend Alexis. She is so incredibly one-of-a-kind, and has always been the baby of the group. Over the last year though, I have witnessed Alexis blossom into this amazing, beautiful, and strong individual who I adore and look up to. Not only is she absolutely naturally stunning, she has a great sense of style that is so carefree. She is creative and artistic, and I am constantly being inspired by her, in all forms.




From a very young age, Alexis has been playing violin, and I think she is an amazingly talented musician, but is too humble to admit it! SHE SHOULD BE IN A BAND! (lookithowcutesheis!!)

I think she also takes amazing photos! I'm sure she doesn't mean to, but she sure knows how to capture an image very well. Here are a few of my favourite photos of her's:

Brittanee. So lovely, adorable, shy, and hilarious. I like her; and her clothes. This girl might be shy, but she isn't when it comes to her style. Originally from Toronto, Slitt-nee is currently finishing her degree in law, while working at AA. Showing Ottawa what it means to be cute and stylish, Brittanee is one of my top fashion icon friends!

This is my friend, Kat. She is beautiful and I love her style. She is in her first year at La Salle College in Montreal for Fashion Marketing. Barbie

I know this is from last year's Fashion Week, but I just came across it on Youtube, and it made me so happy. Here is the fashion show dedicated to Barbie's 50th aniversary. It totally rules, and I love how it looks as if the dolls have come to life ('cause the model's are so damn skinny and they look just like Barbie!). The music is pretty pumping too - poor ending song though. Bummer.







I think the 2nd video is probably my favourite section! I also dig the open-toe heels with the ankle strap with socks!

I just bought Volcano Choir's album, Unmap. It. Is. Incredible. But what did I expect? Anything that Justin Vernon touches turns to gold - IS gold. The men of Volcano Choir are talented in a way other musicians only dream of being. Please buy their album, if there is one thing you do as a blog-reader, music-lover. Buy this album. :)



Broken Bells - The High Road

I also recently bought Broken Bells' debut album, and have yet to be blown away. I am happy with the outcome of James Mercer (lead singer from The Shins) and Danger Mouse joining their musical forces, however I would not place this album on any sort of list of 2010's best. I think it's because I hold James Mercer on such a high pedestal, that I found his new side-project just could not match up. Oh well, it's still exciting to hear something new.

The Cinematic Orchestra ft Patrick Watson - To Build a Home

I don't listen to a lot of Patrick Watson, but this track with The Cinematic Orchestra is really awesome. I like it. Enjoy please.

The Drums - Down by the Water

This album totally rules, and has slowly become my go-to for summer-anticipation music. This is my favourite track on The Drums' "Summertime!" LP, but check out "Let's go Surfing," and tell me if you don't get roweled up and ready to get 40 degree weather going!!

Weekend

So I am sitting in a closet right now, perched on a step ladder, watching on-comers walker in and out of those glass doors. The band tonight is totally balls, in my opinion. Not to say the musicians can't play their instruments, or the melodies don't blend together well - but I just kind of hate "metal" sellouts who spend too much time gelling their hair, and buying pre-ripped jeans , trying to convince themselves they are real, bad-ass rockers. Not to mention their make-uppy girlfriends. AND, who's the dude with the leather-spike choker? Someone's gotta tell that guy that Evanescence is no longer cool...

The good thing about this 5' by 5' box is I've made it feel like a total hideout. The coats that hang above and below me are covering just enough of the over-head light to make me feel like I've ran away. When I kneel down to get something on the floor, and look up at the small over-sized window out at the bar, I feel like a little kid hiding out. If only no one could actually see me!

Sitting here, writing this with a black, dull sharpie, while other occupants in the building drink alcoholic beverages, makes me feel even more like a seven year old, waiting for her dad to finish socializing so he can take me home. It is almost 10pm...way past my weekday bedtime!

Oh boy! I'm getting tired, speaking of bedtime. And I just realized that I really have to pee. WHERE IS JAMES!!

Dirty, gritty, scary

My little sister asked me to help her find a famous photographer that she could do a project on for her Media class. I don't know very many photographers, and was having trouble thinking of one off the top of my head. But then I recalled reading a post on the Selvedge Yard about William Gedney. We looked through a lot of his photos, and the first thing she said about his work was that alot of the images were scary looking. That's precisely the feeling that Gedney attempted to portray in his work. He produced images that were haunting with truth surrounding the lives of the poor, rebellious and overworked across America from the 1960s until the 1980s. Below are a few of my favourite images I have seen from his collections:

SO LONG!!!

So, yup, it's been eternity since I have blogged. I guess any moment I can spend away from my computer, I will take - the beautiful weather has enticed me to spend every second outside that I am not writing essays!!

The one thing I am most, most excited about that's approaching next week, is the Machotaildrop premiere at the Mayfair on March 31! Presented by Top of the World, the film starts at 9pm! Come early and get your tickets and seats, and enjoy the movie with all the hyped up kids waiting to see what this Willa Wonka of the skate world has to share! Also, while you're out and about in the next week, go and check out the Two Days Slow: An Alice in Wonderland Group art show at Canteen on Dalhousie. The exhibit is up until March 28. This is a perfect time for this theme of art show, considering the newly released Tim Burton flick (which I've yet to see!!)

This Wednesday at Babylon nightclub, Capital Distraction brings you Japanther,with Black Feelings (Montreal) and The Shakey Aches!! This is Japanther's first show in a long time in Ottawa, and I am so stoked to finally be able to see them live! Doors are at 9pm, and tickets are only 8 bucks at the door. I think this is the best way to spend any Wednesday evening!!

Today was an awesome Thursday. Another beautiful day, and I luckily had the whole afternoon to do whatever I wanted! I woke up at a decent time without the help of an alarm clock, and spent the morning eating leftover Chinese food, cleaning the house, and hanging out with my roommate. Then I met up with my friend and roamed around centertown taking photos of things and people.


This is the busted up cassette tape that I found in a parking lot and pocketed. I like it, but it smells like garbage.

We then came back to my house and made paper airplanes for about half an hour trying to find my favourite style of plane.

I decided I liked the classic "arrow plane" the best!

I also made friends with a gentleman with a dark room...
